Strength in Solitude: Reflections on Holy Week and Easter Amidst Adversity

My Beloved Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As we find ourselves amidst Holy Week, approaching the culmination of our 40-day Lenten pilgrimage, I am reminded of the unparalleled significance of this season—a Lent and Holy Week that will undoubtedly be etched into the annals of history. While the circumstances may confine us to our homes, preventing us from gathering together as Catholics to commemorate one of the most sacred events in Christendom, let us remain steadfast in our faith.

In the face of adversity, we shall prevail. This pandemic, though it has disrupted our lives and tested our resilience, shall not diminish the strength of our faith. Indeed, may it serve as a catalyst for spiritual renewal, drawing souls back to the embrace of the Church.

Each morning, I find solace in the quiet solitude of my room, where I tune in to televised Mass on my laptop. Following this sacred ritual, I immerse myself in prayer—reciting the rosary in both Latin, a language I am fervently learning through self-education, and English. With each prayerful utterance, I beseech our Blessed Mother Mary and her beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, to intercede on our behalf, beseeching them to bring an end to this devastating pandemic.

While physical separation may prevent us from congregating this Easter, let us not forget the profound sacrifice made by our Lord on the Cross, granting us the gift of eternal life in Him. As we journey through this unprecedented time, let our hearts be filled with hope and our prayers be united in seeking relief for those affected by this scourge.

In solidarity with our Holy Father, Pope Francis, our esteemed Cardinals, Bishops, Priests, and consecrated religious, I urge you to join me in fervent prayer. Together, let us lift our voices to heaven, beseeching divine intervention and seeking solace in the promise of resurrection and renewal.

May the blessings of Lent accompany us as we journey towards the joyous celebration of Easter, a testament to the enduring hope and unwavering faith that unites us as children of God.

With heartfelt Lenten blessings and wishes for a joyous Easter,

Anthony "John Paul" Moran
