Sacred Beginnings: Navigating the Path of Faith in RCIA

Stepping into the Parish Rectory on Thursday, November 7, 2019, marked the beginning of a sacred journey—the commencement of my very first RCIA class. As I settled into the embrace of this new chapter, I found myself enveloped in a sense of anticipation and reverence.

Our inaugural session commenced with a tender exploration of my faith journey—a reflective journey through the winding paths that have led me to this momentous juncture in my spiritual odyssey. With open hearts and eager minds, we delved into the depths of my aspirations and convictions, laying the foundation for the transformative voyage that lay ahead.

Guided by the gentle hand of our instructor, I embarked on a voyage of discovery—a basic overview of the teachings and traditions that form the cornerstone of the Catholic faith. From the foundational principles of doctrine to the sacred rituals and sacraments that define our spiritual landscape, each lesson illuminated the path towards deeper understanding and communion.

As tokens of guidance and encouragement, I was bestowed with sacred treasures—a collection of the four Gospels, a testament to the enduring wisdom and teachings of Christ. Alongside, a tome on the essence of Catholicism and the transformative power of prayer stood as beacons of enlightenment, guiding me towards a deeper connection with my newfound faith.

In the tender embrace of tradition, I received a Padre Pio Rosary—a tangible symbol of divine grace and intercession, a reminder of the sacred bond that unites us in prayer. Accompanied by a pamphlet on the profound practice of the Rosary, I embarked on a journey of spiritual devotion and contemplation, seeking solace and guidance in the gentle rhythms of prayer.

As I bid farewell to my fellow pilgrims, our hearts united in the shared pursuit of faith, I left with a sense of purpose and determination. My assignment for our next gathering—an immersion into the sacred texts of the Catechism, a journey into the depths of Catholic doctrine and theology.

With each step forward, I am filled with gratitude for the guiding hands and benevolent spirits that have illuminated my path. As we journey forward together, may our hearts remain steadfast in the pursuit of truth and understanding, united in the timeless embrace of faith and fellowship.

My Vocations Journey: First Steps

Dear Readers, I am excited to share a significant update on my journey of faith. For some time now, I have felt a calling from the Lord to discern the priesthood in His Holy Church. After much encouragement from Fr. Juan, our newest Parochial Vicar, I reached out to the Diocese of Norwich to take the next steps in this discernment process. The journey has not been without its challenges, particularly with recent transitions in the vocations office staff. However, I was finally able to connect with the Diocese's new Vocations Director, Fr. Jeffrey R. Ellis. Until recently, Fr. Ellis served as the Parochial Vicar at St. Michael Parish in Pawcatuck, which is also the home parish of my late Parochial Vicar, Fr. George Richards. Fr. Ellis and I met for dinner at a local diner, where we had an in-depth conversation about my call to the priesthood, my family background, and various aspects of the vocations journey. Just a few months ago, in the radiant glow of May, I embraced the sacrament of confirmation, a profound moment of commitment and devotion.
