Meet My Sponsor: Mayor Sebastian N. Giuliano - A Trusted Guide on My Spiritual Journey

Amidst the rich tapestry of my RCIA journey, a pivotal moment unfolded during my second class—an announcement that would shape the course of my confirmation experience. With bated breath, I listened as my instructor revealed the importance of having a sponsor or godparent by my side for the upcoming sacrament.

In that moment, there was no hesitation in my heart. I knew exactly who I wanted by my side—my esteemed political mentor and dear friend, Mayor Sebastian N. Giuliano (R). With courage and conviction, I reached out to him, extending the heartfelt invitation to stand as my sponsor on April 11th.

To my delight and gratitude, Mayor Giuliano's response was swift and affirmative, echoing with the warmth of camaraderie and support. In a matter of minutes, his reply landed in my inbox, affirming his commitment to walk alongside me on this sacred journey of faith.

The anticipation of having Mayor Giuliano as my sponsor fills me with a sense of joy and gratitude, knowing that his presence will add a layer of depth and significance to the ceremony. As we prepare to embark on this sacred rite together, I am filled with a profound sense of connection and reverence.

On April 11th, as I stand before the altar to receive the sacrament of Confirmation, I will honor the memory of Pope Saint John Paul II—a towering figure of faith whose legacy continues to inspire millions around the globe. Taking his name as my confirmation name, John Paul, I pay homage to his profound impact on the Catholic Church and the world at large.

In this moment of reflection, I also extend my reverence to Pope Venerable John Paul I, whose papal name served as a beacon of unity and homage to his predecessors. Through this act of naming, I honor the rich tapestry of history and tradition that binds us together as members of the Catholic faith.

For those unfamiliar with Mayor Sebastian N. Giuliano, allow me to paint a portrait of his esteemed service to our community. Serving as Mayor of Middletown from 2005 to 2011, and later as Councilman from 2013 to 2019 (including a tenure as Minority Leader), Mayor Giuliano embodies the spirit of civic duty and dedication to his hometown.

A lifelong resident of Middletown and parishioner of Saint Sebastian's, Mayor Giuliano's presence at my confirmation ceremony serves as a testament to the enduring bonds of friendship and faith that unite us. With each step forward, I am reminded of the power of community and the sacred journey we undertake together.
